Visit to Renesas Electronics Corporation in Lviv

On June 25, 2026, students and academic staff of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronics visited the office of the renowned technology company Renesas Electronics Corporation in Lviv. The event was attended by students of the educational and professional programs “Computer Engineering,” “Computer-Aided Design of Integrated Circuits,” and “Electronic Systems Engineering.”

Community Relations Senior Specialist Andriana Kushnirenko gave the students a presentation about Renesas Electronics Corporation, which was founded in 2010 based on three major Japanese semiconductor companies: Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric, and NEC. Renesas Electronics Corporation is a global semiconductor company that provides hardware and software solutions for a range of advanced technologies, including autonomous vehicles, robotics, automated factory equipment, and smart home systems. The company employs approximately 22,000 people in more than 30 countries, with its headquarters located in Tokyo, Japan.

The company’s engineers presented information about the ForgeFPGA programmable logic integrated circuits developed by Renesas and their characteristics, as well as the company’s cooperation with such well-known semiconductor manufacturers as TSMC. The students were also introduced to important hardware and software systems, including GameBuddy, a gaming simulator developed on the basis of FPGA technology using the Verilog hardware description language, as well as a 3D holographic fan, a solar tracker, various microchips, and equipment used for chip testing.

The development of projects, design of hardware and software systems, testing, and technical support at the company are carried out by a number of specialized teams that cooperate with one another, as well as with key partners and customers. These include:

  • Application Team – develops projects using GreenPAK for customers and conducts their testing, supports customers during project development, prepares project documentation, and validates new chips.
  • FPGA Application Team – develops projects using ForgeFPGA for customers, conducts testing, and provides further support.
  • POWER GreenPAK Team – provides technical support to users and develops automated tests for measuring the parameters of semiconductor power-control switches, DC/DC converters, and LDO regulators.
  • Hardware Team – develops and designs hardware and software systems, automates testing processes, and performs characterization and validation of the company’s products.
  • Digital Design Team – develops digital circuits, writes Verilog code, and synthesizes the code into circuits for testing.
  • Software Team – develops software, as well as develops, updates, and tests the Go Configure Software Hub.
  • Product Engineering Team – analyzes data to determine the causes of manufacturing defects, develops testing methodologies to ensure quality, and coordinates efforts to reduce the defect rate.
  • Characterization Team – develops automated tests and measures the parameters of individual GreenPAK blocks, evaluating these parameters and their production variation.
  • Test Team – develops software for testing chips during manufacturing according to customer requirements.
  • Modeling and Simulation Team – creates analog and digital models using C, Verilog HDL, and SPICE to simulate GreenPAK integrated circuits and ForgeFPGA within the Go Configure Software Hub.

Following the main presentation, Andriana Kushnirenko conducted a tour of the main areas of the Renesas Electronics Corporation office. The students had an opportunity to see the employees’ workplaces and the company’s electronics and embedded systems laboratories.

The students and academic staff of the Department of Computer Engineering and Electronics sincerely thank Andriana Kushnirenko and the employees of Renesas Electronics Corporation for their warm welcome, engaging presentations, demonstration of cutting-edge engineering solutions in electronics, and informative tour.

We wish Renesas Electronics Corporation continued success and look forward to further fruitful cooperation!
